The July 2007 issue of Environment & Climate News features the first article in a two-part series on the nation's improving air quality. Joel Schwartz, a visiting fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, sets straight the many distortions in the American Lung Association's 2007 air quality report.

On page 1:

  • Incandescent light bulbs are one step closer to being banned in California, after the California Assembly Utilities and Commerce Committee voted in April to enact such a ban.

  • Global warming alarmists and realists squared off in federal district court in Vermont for two weeks in early May.

  • President George W. Bush announced in May a plan that would force U.S. consumers and businesses to reduce gasoline consumption by 20 percent over the next 10 years.

  • Two new reports conclude caps on carbon dioxide emissions would be tremendously costly to American consumers.

Also in this issue: dams in California, climate change adaptation, global warming controversy at NASA, organic food, aquatic herbicides, and more.
