The August 2005 issue of IT&T News summarizes research conducted by Marshall University economists Mark Burton and Michael Hicks for the State of West Virginia Development Office, addressing the impact of affordably priced, widespread broadband telecommunications to the economies of rural states. They conclude that the benefits of increasing access to broadband would be relatively small and thus unlikely to be a useful investment for local governments or other municipal agencies.
