The May 2007 issue of InfoTech & Telecom News--the first in its 20-page newspaper format--highlights a wide range of today’s top information technology and telecommunications policy issues. On page 1:
- The Missouri General Assembly has overwhelmingly passed legislation that would allow statewide franchising for cable TV competitors, and at least 11 other states have introduced similar legislation already this year.
- The Federal Trade Commission held a two-date workshop in February to discuss network neutrality.
- A new report by The Heartland Institute and Beacon Hill Institute finds taxes and fees imposed on cable TV and phone services cost the average household approximately $264 a year.
- Three states are looking to legislate procurement and use of “open source” computer software formats for document storage.
