The Gift of Stock

How to Donate Stock to The Heartland Institute

Instructions for transfer of securities via Depository Trust Company (DTC)

Capital gains tax is totally avoided when you give appreciated stock to The Heartland Institute, making this an attractive way to support us. To donate stock please take the following steps:

1. First, notify The Heartland Institute of the stock you plan to donate, so we can assure proper receipt of your contribution in our account held at Pershing LLC. Please contact Gwendalyn Carver by phone, email, or mail:

Telephone: 312/377-4000
Email: gcarver@heartland.org

2. Second, instruct your broker to transfer the stock shares you’ve identified to The Heartland Institute as a charitable gift (your broker may require instructions in writing – with a signature guarantee), providing the broker with the exact transfer instructions below:

Pershing LLC
DTC #0443
Account Name: The Heartland Institute
Account #: A3F669611
From: [Your name and account number] *

*IMPORTANT – Please instruct your broker to include your name and account number when transferring the stock to The Heartland Institute via DTC. Without that information, we may not be able to promptly identify and acknowledge your gift. This is also why it’s important to notify us of the shares being donated before the stock transfer.

3. Any additional questions your broker may have regarding delivery should be directed to Janis S. Sleeter, Cetera Advisor Networks, LLC (630) 368-6160.

IRS Circular 230 Notice: The Heartland Institute cannot provide donors with tax, legal or financial advice in connection with gift and planning matters. Please consult with your advisors before proceeding with a contribution.
