Meet Dr. Tim Huelskamp, Heartland’s New President!
In July, The Heartland Institute welcomed a new president, Dr. Tim Huelskamp, who is taking the place of Joseph Bast, Heartland’s founding president. (Bast plans to stay on as chief executive officer until the end of the year.)
Dr. Huelskamp is a former three-term member of Congress and a well-known national conservative leader. He represented Kansas’ First District in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2011 to 2017. Huelskamp helped the House Freedom and Liberty Caucuses grow and chaired and expanded the Tea Party Caucus.
Prior to becoming a member of Congress, Dr. Huelskamp served in the Kansas Senate, from 1996 to 2010. Dr. Huelskamp was a fifth-generation farmer in Kansas, where he farmed with his family for more than 30 years. He earned a bachelor’s degree summa cum laude from the College of Santa Fe and a Ph.D. in political science from American University in Washington, DC.
Learn More About Us!
The Heartland Institute is one of the nation’s most prominent and influential nonprofit research and education organizations – a “think tank” dedicated to discovering, developing, and promoting free-market solutions to social and economic problems.
We address a variety of issues that have a major impact on your life, safety, and happiness, including school reform, health care, entitlement programs, and environmental regulation. We support school choice and oppose Common Core State Standards. We are leaders in the effort to repeal and replace Obamacare and to put Medicare and Social Security on a firm financial foundation. We oppose high taxes and unnecessary regulations, and we are skeptical “global warming” is as big a problem as former President Barack Obama and radical environmentalists have said it is.
This is your chance to meet Heartland staff, senior fellows, and policy advisors from around the country and ask them tough questions about the issues you care about most. Discover neighbors who share your concerns and sign up for free e-newsletters and event invitations. You’ll also be able to learn more about how you can help us reach out to your neighbors and elected officials as a Heartland volunteer.
Become a Heartland Supporter!
Heartland’s work is supported by the contributions of more than 5,500 men and women just like you, people who care deeply about the future of our country. Sponsor levels start at only $25. Because we are a nonprofit charitable organization, contributions are tax-deductible.
We do not lobby or conduct contract research or accept government grants. We fight for you and your family!
Please join us on September 9! There is no admission charge, but we hope you will register above so we know how many hamburgers to put on the grill! For more information about becoming a supporter of Heartland, visit our donor website or call 312/377-4000 and ask for Gwendalyn Carver.
