He is host of The Joe Walsh Show, heard from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. weeknights on AM 560 The Answer and syndicated nationally, and founder of WalshFreedom.com – a website dedicated to activating the grassroots of the Tea Party movement. Walsh earned his bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Iowa in 1985 and a masters degree in public policy from the University of Chicago. He worked with the Jobs for Youth program in the inner-city Chicago area, teaching high school dropouts basic academic and job skills. Proft also voices a popular political commentary, “:60 of Sanity,” heard by two million listeners weekly on the Salem Radio Network. Proft is also a senior fellow at the Illinois Policy Institute, a free-market think tank in Chicago. He serves on the boards of directors for the Disabled Patriot Fund, a non-profit organization that provides assistance to Illinois military families; Envision Unlimited, a nonprofit organization in Chicago that serves developmentally disabled persons; Aid for Women, a Catholic, life-affirming pregnancy center; and Truth in Accounting, a nonprofit organization dedicated to accurate public- sector accounting and budgeting. Proft also runs one of Illinois’ largest independent expenditure PACs, Liberty Principles PAC, which supports candidates committed to the economic liberty policy agenda for state and local offices. Proft is a co-founder of Illinois Opportunity Project, a 501c4 nonprofit organization that advocates for free-market public policy solutions. Proft earned his bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University and his law degree from Loyola University-Chicago School of Law.
Kathleen MurphyDirector of Communication, Illinois Opportunity ProjectKathleen Murphy is a political communication expert with a strong media background and extensive experience in research, analysis, and messaging in the political arena. As director of communication for Illinois Opportunity Project, Murphy oversees the organization’s messaging and communication strategy; leads its media strategy; interprets and explains the politics behind state policies; and helps to advance center-right leaders and free-market policy solutions. She is a trusted adviser to many liberty-principled legislators, candidates, advocates, and community leaders. Murphy is also the host of Upstream Idea’s “Follow the Logic,” a man-on-street segment that challenges interviewees’ principles and fixed ideas about politics and policy. She is also a member of the Ladies of Liberty Alliance Speakers Bureau. The national organization includes many notable women in the liberty movement, including Amity Shlaes, Tammy Bruce, Katherine Timpf, Michelle Fields, and Christina Hoff-Sommers. Prior to joining the Illinois Opportunity Project, Murphy served as legislative aide to Illinois state Rep. Jeanne Ives.
Patrick HughesCo-founder, Illinois Opportunity ProjectPatrick Hughes is a co-founder of the Illinois Opportunity Project and serves as president of the Liberty Justice Center. In 2010, Hughes ran for United States Senate, finishing second to Senator Mark Kirk in the Republican primary for the seat vacated by President Barack Obama. Hughes is a regularly featured guest on local and national media, including Fox Chicago, AM 560’s Illinois Rising, and WYCC’s In the Loop. He has appeared on the Sean Hannity Show, the Mark Levin Show, the Laura Ingraham Show, and Beyond the Beltway. Hughes is an attorney, real estate developer, and homebuilder with interests in various development entities. He lives in Hinsdale with his wife, Susan, and their three children.
