An ‘AWFUL’ Idea Encouraging Pro-Growth Policies (Guest: Ohio State Rep. John Becker)

July 5, 2018

Ohio State Rep. John Becker (R-Union Township) joins the Heartland Daily Podcast to talk about his ‘AWFUL’ idea to encourage pro-growth policies in the Buckeye State.

In this episode of the Heartland Daily Podcast, Managing Editor Jesse Hathaway talks with Ohio State Rep. John Becker (R-Union Township) about House Bill 649 (H.B. 649), titled the “Average Wage Fully Uniform Law.” (AWFUL)

If made law, AWFUL would index pay for state lawmakers to the median household income in the state of Ohio. Because the salary of each legislator is tied to everyday Ohioans’ median incomes, Becker says lawmakers would be incentivized to promote economic growth.

Becker says pro-growth policies are the key to helping people, and lawmakers should not be able to simply vote themselves pay raises, regardless of their job performance. Becker says tying lawmakers’ pay to real-world outcomes would encourage elected officials to do the right thing for Ohioans, instead of allowing them to do what’s best for the lawmakers themselves.
