Biden Doubles Down on Obamacare Coverage Requirements (Guest: Brian Blasé)

April 4, 2022

The Biden administration is putting the brakes on the last vestiges of health insurance not operating under the coverage requirements of Obamacare.

The Biden administration and Senate Democrats are putting the brakes on Short Term Limited Duration Insurance (STLDI) plans.  These are plans that are not subjected to the same coverage requirements of Obamacare plans and as a result, premiums are a fraction of the cost.  Consumers buy them to maintain coverage between jobs or life transitions.  They are often referred to as plans for healthy people because they do not cover pre-existing conditions.

Brian Blasé, founder and president of the Paragon Institute, discusses what will likely happen to these plans under the Biden administration and why that will eliminate choice in the health care marketplace.

Blasé discusses what changes are in store and what that could mean to people using STLDI plans. He also discusses who uses these kinds of plans, whether there is any evidence that consumers don’t understand the coverage limitations, and why some politicians want to eliminate choice in the health care marketplace.
