Ill Literacy, Episode XVI: Supreme Disorder (Guest: Ilya Shapiro)

October 26, 2020

In Episode XVI of Ill Literacy, Tim Benson talks with Ilya Shapiro about his new book, "Supreme Disorder: Judicial Nominations and the Politics of America’s Highest Court."

Heartland’s Tim Benson is joined by the Cato Institute’s Ilya Shapiro to discuss his new book, Supreme Disorder: Judicial Nominations and the Politics of America’s Highest Court. They chat about Amy Coney Barrett’s nomination, how politics has always intruded on the SCOTUS nomination process going all the way back to George Washington, and go through a short history of these nomination battles. They also talk about why the process has become so explosive in the last forty years, and different ways this could be remedied.
