John Nothdurft and Donny Kendal present episode #130 of the In The Tank Podcast. This weekly podcast features (as always) interviews, debates, and roundtable discussions that explore the work of think tanks across the country. The show is available for download as part of the Heartland Daily Podcast every Friday. Today’s podcast features work from the Reason Foundation, the Cato Institute, The Foundation for Government Accountability, the Platte Institute, and the Heartland Institute.

Before moving on to think tank and policy related topics, Donny talks about his first time at the shooting range.

Policybot Featured Work of the Week

This week's Policybot featured work comes from the Foundation for Government Accountability. The report, titled "Waiting for Help: The Medicaid Waiting List Crisis," shows how Medicaid expansion can have negative effects on those whom the program was designed to help - the truly needy. The report reveals that a minimum of 21,904 people have died while on Medicaid waiting lists.

More Think Tank Works

Prior to the Policybot Featured work of the week, Donny and John talk about the upcoming Daylight Savings time change.
Supplemental articles: Reason - Why We Have Daylight Saving Time and Why We Should Scrap It
Rand Corporation - The Short and Long Run Effects of Daylight Saving Time on Fatal Automobile Crashes
Scientific American - Does Daylight Saving Time Conserve Energy?
Cato Institute - Changing Times

After, Donny and John talk about occupational licensing reform in Nebraska that would free up equine massage practitioners from extensive licensing requirements. Our friends at the Platte Institute were able to shed some light on this reform.

Last, Donny and John talk about an attitude change regarding E-cigarettes from the American Cancer Society. In a recently released statement, the ACS suggests E-cigarettes could be used as a smoking cessation tool. As John explains, this could have major implications.
