John Nothdurft and Donny Kendal present episode #134 of the In The Tank Podcast. This weekly podcast features (as always) interviews, debates, and roundtable discussions that explore the work of think tanks across the country. The show is available for download as part of the Heartland Daily Podcast every Friday. Today’s podcast features work from the Illinois Policy Institute, the Manhattan Institute, and the Competitive Enterprise Institute.

Policybot Featured Work of the Week

This week's Policybot featured work comes from the Illinois Policy Institute. The recently released report, titled "False promises, real harm: Why Illinoisans should reject a progressive income tax," dismantles the claims made by proponents of a statewide progressive income tax. The authors explain how the tax plan would do little to level income inequality and how it would be harmful to the state's economy.

Next, Donny and John talk about potential executive branch line item veto power. Brian Riedl, senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute, wrote an article titled "Congress Should Give the President the 'Legislative Line-Item Veto." In this article, Riedl offers a potential reform that would strengthen the executive branch's rescission power.

Supplemental article about Line-Item Veto: Trump wants a line-item veto. One problem: it's unconstitutional.

Donny and John then welcome to the podcast Arianna Wilkerson, government relations coordinator at The Heartland Institute. She joins the podcast to talk about CAFE Standards and how these mandates distort the market and harm society.
