Donny Kendal, John Nothdurft and Justin Haskins present episode #146 of the In The Tank Podcast. This weekly podcast features (as always) interviews, debates, and roundtable discussions that explore the work of think tanks across the country. The show is available for download as part of the Heartland Daily Podcast every Friday. Today’s podcast features work from the Tax Foundation, Atlas Network, and Illinois Policy.

Donny starts of the show with a bit of a rant about what he calls "cultural rot." Has our public discourse become more toxic than ever? Donny explains how this vitriolic rhetoric which has become all too common is not just limited to politics. He sees in entertainment media and sports.

The group then talks about the recently announced upcoming retirement of Justice Anthony Kennedy. Starting off with a statement from Leonard Leo from the Federalist Society, Justin, John and Donny give their thoughts on this historic event.

They then talk about a few of the more important recent Supreme Court rulings. First, South Dakota v. Wayfair. Last week, SCOTUS came down on the side of South Dakota on the case of states collecting sales tax on online retailers. The trio discuss whether the right decision was made or not and what the implications may be.

And lastly, this week, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of Janus in the contentious case of Janus v. AFSCME. This landmark case established that non-union workers cannot be forced to pay fees to public sector unions. The consequences of this could be widespread.
