Donny Kendal and Isaac Orr, Policy Fellow at the Center of the American Experiment bring you episode #176 of the In The Tank Podcast. This weekly podcast features (as always) interviews, debates, and roundtable discussions that explore the work of think tanks across the country. The show is available for download as part of the Heartland Daily Podcast every Friday. Today's episode features work from the Center of the American Experiment, the Mackinac Center, the Pacific Research Institute, and the Pacific Legal Foundation.

Donny and Isaac start off the show talking about the frigid cold weather that rolled into the midwest and how it relates to energy. Reading from Isaac's recent article in the Star Tribune titled "Bitter cold shows reliable energy sources are critical," the two discuss the implications of policies that strive to increase the renewable energy mandate to 50% by 2030.

Next, the two talk about a Kaiser Family Foundation poll that found that 56% of people supported "Medicare for all." However, if you dig into the results, you see that support quickly erodes if you point out what this plan would entail. This fact is pointed out in Pacific Research Institute's article titled "To Win The White House, Democrats Will Have To Hide The Truth About Single-Payer," as well as in an Investor's Business Daily article titled "The Public Loves 'Medicare For All' ... Until They Learn What's In It."

Donny and Isaac then talk about a court case being taken on by the Pacific Legal Foundation - Rafaeli, LLC v. Oakland County. In this case, Oakland County, MI, foreclosed on a home of a man who owed $8.41 in taxes. The County sold the home and pocketed the surplus.

In the last segment, Donny brings up a proposed bill out of Hawaii which aims to restrict the sale of cigarettes to anyone under the age of 100 within 5 years.
