Heartland's Donald Kendal and Justin Haskins are joined by Isaac Orr, Policy Fellow at the Center of the American Experiment, in episode #178 of the In The Tank Podcast. This weekly podcast features (as always) interviews, debates, and roundtable discussions that explore the work of think tanks across the country. The show is available for download as part of the Heartland Daily Podcast every Friday. Today's episode features work from the Tax Foundation, Mercatus Center, Reason Foundation, and the Pacific Legal Foundation.

In the first segment, Donny, Justin, and Isaac talk about the massive fail that was the roll out of the Green New Deal resolution. As the trio explains, a FAQ sheet released by the staff of Alexandria Ocasio Cortez contained a ton of preposterous ideas including the elimination of air travel and providing financial security to those "unwilling to work." AOC and her staff tried to dismiss this FAQ sheet as a fraud, but it is all too real.

They then talk about two papers relating to AOC's suggestion that the nation's rich should be taxes at a rate of 70%. One paper from the Tax Foundation, titled "How Much Revenue Would a 70% Top Tax Rate Raise? An Initial Analysis," estimates the rate would raise revenues far less than what advocates would expect. The other item, a paper released by the Mercatus Center titled "Does a 70% Top Marginal Tax rate Make Sense?" tackles some of the arguments made in favor of such a plan.

In a related topic, the trio talks about the derailment of a plan to build a high-speed rail in California. An article from the Reason Foundation's Hit and Run blog, titled "California's Bullet Train Project Doesn't Deserve Your Moist-Eyed Love Letters," outlines some of the facts about this debacle.

In the next segment, Donny is joined by Christina Martin, Attorney at the Pacific Legal Foundation. Christina joins the show to talk about a bit about PLF as well as the case where a Michigan man's property was confiscated and sold over a $8.41 tax debt.

Last, Donny gets Isaac and Justin's reaction to an article authored by the Taxpayers Protection Alliance Foundation titled "End of Net Neutrality Brings Booming Broadband Growth." It turns out, removing the Title II regulations over the internet has not resulted in the doomsday-type scenario's advocates of "Net Neutrality" said would happen.
