John Nothdurft and Donny Kendal present episode #95 of the In The Tank Podcast. This weekly podcast features (as always) interviews, debates, and roundtable discussions that explore the work of think tanks across the country. The show is available for download as part of the Heartland Daily Podcast every Friday. Today’s podcast features work from the Manhattan Institute and the American Enterprise Institute.
Better Know a Think Tank
Today, John and Donny invite to the show Jim Lakely, Director of Communications at The Heartland Institute. Jim comes on the podcast to discuss the recent announcement that Tim Huelskamp will be the next President of The Heartland Institute. Jim talks about Huelskamp and what this is going to mean for the future of The Heartland Institute.
Policybot Featured Work of the Week
This week's Policybot featured work of the week comes from the Manhattan Institute. The commentary, titled "FDA Liberates Your Smartphone," praises recent developments out of the FDA which will reduce the hurdles health apps have to jump before coming to market. Donny, John and Jim talk about what this means and what role the FDA should have in this market.
Other Think Tank Works
Next, Donny, John and Jim talk about report out of the American Enterprise Institute titled "If Seattle's $15 minimum wage experiment is the 'canary in the coal mine,' other cities should proceed with caution." The report focuses on a new report produced by the University of Washington that explores the effects of hiking the minimum wage in Seattle. The conclusions are not good for those who 'fight for $15."
In the last segment, Donny asks for John's opinion on a proposed bill in the Philippines which would potentially jail citizens for singing the national anthem without enthusiasm.
