Larry Sand: Moratorium on Privately Managed Charter Schools
September 7, 2016
On this edition of the Heartland Institute’s education podcast, your host, education research fellow and managing editor of School Reform News, Teresa Mull, spoke to Larry Sand, president of the California Teachers Empowerment Network.
We discussed a resolution made by members of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) to impose a moratorium on privately managed charter schools. The NAACP has been against charters for some time, but Sand discusses what this new resolution means for charter schools nationally, why the NAACP is wrong to oppose charters, and how the teachers unions, along with organizations like the NAACP, are working to the detriment of children by interfering with school choice programs.
