Heartland Institute Director of Communications Jim Lakely and Director of Publications S.T. Karnick discuss President Donald Trump’s remarkable July 6, 2015 speech defending Western culture and values in Warsaw, Poland. Trump used the word “civilization” no fewer than 10 times in his speech, which might be the best delivered on foreign policy by an American president since Ronald Reagan’s “tear down this wall” speech in Berlin. Lakely and Karnick discuss the meaning of the speech, why it has made the left go crazy, and why it is essential to for the West to have the will to defend its version of civilization – which has fostered peace, freedom, and prosperity for generations. That legacy is not permanent, but must be actively fostered.
