A German radical leftist group linked to Antifa, Offenes Antikapitalistisches Klimatreffen München, surround The Heartland Institute's James Taylor on November 23 as he tries to film their demonstration in front of the Munich venue for the European Institute for Climate and Energy (EIKE) conference. Approximately 30 German police officers were dispatched, preventing likely bloodshed. The group had threatened the conference of climate realists with a “fighting demonstration” to “make it clear what we think of you.” They had also ominously written, “We found you” on the steps of the conference venue on the night before the conference. EIKE had to find a new place to hold the conference when the Antifa-linked thugs threatened the previous venue with violence.

Heartland’s Jim Lakely takes over as host this week for Episode 216 of the In The Tank Podcast and interviews Ben Boychuk, managing editor of the conservative journal American Greatness and a fellow at the Center on American Greatness. They discuss the founding mission of the site, and how they came to embrace the policies of Donald Trump before just about any national organization or publication. Jim and Ben, a long-time friend, also talk about whether America is close to an inevitable decline, whether we really are in the middle of a Cold Civil War, and the best book Ben has read in the past year. American Greatness: The second half of the podcast is Jim’s interview with Jason Isaac of the Texas Public Policy Foundation, recorded live at last week’s State Policy Network annual meeting in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Jason talks about his project, called “Life: Powered,” a comprehensive effort to educate the public about the importance of a reliable (read: powered by fossil fuels) energy grid in America. Share this video, which The Heartland Institute put together with the permission and help of our friends at the Competitive Enterprise Institute, who compiled this report. Modern doomsayers have been predicting climate and environmental disaster since the 1960s. They continue to do so today. None of the apocalyptic predictions with due dates as of today have come true. What follows is a collection of notably wild predictions from notable people in government and science. More than merely spotlighting the failed predictions, this collection shows that the makers of failed apocalyptic predictions often are individuals holding respected positions in government and science. While such predictions have been and continue to be enthusiastically reported by a media eager for sensational headlines, the failures are typically not revisited. Thanks go to Tony Heller, who first collected many of these news clips and posted them on RealClimateScience. It's time for both sides to make the case: What is happening to our climate and what can we do about it? On September 23 in the Big Apple – on the same day and in the same city the United Nations will convene its Climate Summit before it's General Assembly session – The Heartland Institute will host a debate on what is happening to our climate and what we can do about it. That's a debate long-delayed, but never more important than now. We've cordially invited some of the country's most-prominent advocates for taking immediate action on climate change: Kevin Trenberth, Michael Mann, Don Wuebbles, Katherine Hayhoe, Brenda Ekwurzel, and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. They blame human activity for global warming, insist it will be catastrophic to life on Earth, and demand big changes to the way Americans live, work, eat, travel, and build. If those claims are correct, then it's time to make the case to the American people – who are skeptical of the scope of the problem and have not been asked their consent to those proposed solutions. The Heartland Institute will bring a team of scientists, policy experts, and (maybe) a public official to represent the "climate realist" side of the debate. Doesn't the wholesale reordering of our society demand at least a little bit of public debate? We think so. This debate will be live-streamed from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. ET at Tune in so you can make up your mind for yourself.
