The Heartland Institute's Donald Kendal, Jim Lakely, and Chris Talgo present episode 363 of the In The Tank Podcast. Despite continued high inflation numbers, stock market drops, and a shaky housing market, the Biden Administration thought is was a good time to celebrate the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act. Also, major credit card companies have taken action that will essentially create a national gun registry. President Biden is expected to sign the poorly named Inflation Reduction Act today despite the fact he claimed the July's inflation rate was zero percent last week. Why sign the bill then? It's because the true purpose is sneaking in a laundry list of progressive policies under the name of reducing inflation. The bill contains a record $369 billion in spending on climate and energy policies designed to lower carbon dioxide emissions. Essentially, this was a massive renewable energy bill. Steve Milloy joins the Climate Change Roundtable crew to discuss why phasing coal out of the energy sector will lead to deaths across the country. This isn't a hypothetical. Blackouts in recent years already highlight the massive damage we should expect.

Biden just told Americans that the economy had zero inflation in the month of July. Do prices on everyday goods and services seem higher to you? The Biden administration seems to think you need your eyes checked, making it their most laughable claim yet. Ironically, this claim was made days before Biden plans to sign the Inflation Reduction Act. Why sign a bill for a nonexistent problem? This clip comes from the In The Tank podcast, streamed live on YouTube every Thursday at 12pm CT.

The Heartland Institute's Donald Kendal, Jim Lakely, and Samantha Fillmore are joined by Isaac Orr in episode 280 of the In The Tank Podcast. It seems lately like people who say they are conservative are starting to stray on issues that used to be basic – minimum wage, stimulus payments, and the national debt to name a few. The ITT crew explores this idea, discuss what has caused this, and talks about the path to normalcy (if there is one). Also, they discuss a proposal for the Biden administration to create a “Reality Czar” to police fake news in society – a truly dystopian concept. Three famous economists - Arthur B. Laffer, Ph.D., Stephen Moore, and Erwin J. Antoni, Ph.D - present their new paper for The Heartland Institute titled "Will the Last Taxpayer in Illinois Please Turn Out the Lights: An Economic Assessment of the Illinois ‘Fair Tax’." The report: https://www.heartland.org/_template-assets/documents/10-28-20%20FairTaxReport.pdf This video is just 15 minutes of highlights of their remarks. See the full 52-minute presentation here: https://youtu.be/81tQdY0mAI8 The economists’ research says passage of the so-called "Fair Tax" ballot initiative, which voters will decide on November 3, would:  hit small businesses with annual profits as low as $250,000;  slow job growth by an estimated 566,000 over the next decade, effectively eliminating about one in 10 current jobs;  result in 1.4 million people leaving Illinois for better economic opportunities, setting outmigration from Illinois at about nine times faster than the current alarming rate;  reduce the state's GDP by $20.5 billion over the next decade;  reduce home value appreciation by about 10.4 percent over the next decade;  make Illinois one of the five highest tax jurisdictions in the world, with only New Jersey and some Third World nations having a higher tax on corporations.

States are seeking ways to create a better business climate to attract jobs and businesses to their states. Some states have been passing right-to-work laws, pushing tax reform, and reforming their public pension systems, while others have increased taxes and regulations. This panel discusses which policies are working and which are not. Speaking on this panel are Tax Foundation Vice President of Legal and State Projects Joe Henchman, National Taxpayers Union Executive Vice President Brandon Arnold, and Kansas state Sen. Forrest Knox (R-Wilson County).
