Ten years after the Supreme Court's infamous eminent domain decision, Kelo v. New London, Timothy and Christina Sandefur's Cornerstone of Liberty surveys the landscape of property rights in the United States, from redevelopment projects that seize people's homes and businesses for the benefit of politically-connected developers, to environmental regulations that forbid people from building homes on land they supposedly own, to asset-forfeiture laws that let the police seize property involved in a crime even if the owner is not accused of any wrongdoing.

This is the story of Cedric Keith’s four thousand plus mile walk through the wilds of the east, intent on an environmental cause – the preservation of the eastern brook trout. The fish and the wilderness, however, would lead him, by the roads less traveled, to a more primal Americanism.

Your dinner table is set with genetically modified foods. What exactly does that mean … and should you be concerned for your health? The organic food movement grows every year. Many people are attracted to its acclaimed health benefits and superior produce compared to more ordinary foods. Organically grown food is particularly favored over genetically modified foods (GMOs). Indeed, it is hard to find an upscale restaurant or grocery store that does not loudly proclaim its non-GMO status. Yet, is there any real health benefit to organic and non-GMO foods? The answer (perhaps shockingly to foodies) is no. The media and Internet have been alive for years with the supposed horrific side effects of eating GMOs, with so-called experts claiming they cause all kinds of disease, including cancer. But these “experts” rarely, if ever, have any data to back up their claims. In fact, the one major study that offered some credible evidence of negative health effects from GMOs was ultimately discredited and has since been retracted. Learn at this event how GMOs have helped us feed a growing world population and protect the environment … and will continue to do so.

Constitutional Sound Bites explains America's Founding documents in a format that is familiar to 21st-century readers. This is accomplished in a simple, unbiased, easy-to-read presentation that takes into account the "sound bite" nature of today's cyber-driven, fast-click culture. The Federalist Papers by John Jay, Alexander Hamilton, and James Madison explain the Constitution but most Americans will not read these antiquated essays. Constitutional Sound Bites addresses this reality by translating an 18th-century message into a 21st-century format. Buy the Book on Amazon:

NOTE: We had some minor issues with the live stream. To view the entire video, look here: Fossil fuel energy is the lifeblood of the modern world. Before the Industrial Revolution, humanity depended on burning wood and candle wax. But with the ability to harness the energy in oil and other fossil fuels, quality of life and capacity for progress increased exponentially. Thanks to incredible innovations in the energy industry, fossil fuels are as promising, safe, and clean an energy resource as has ever existed in history. Yet, highly politicized climate policies are pushing a grand-scale shift to unreliable, impractical, incredibly expensive, and far less efficient energy sources. Today, “fossil fuel” has become such a dirty word that even fossil fuel companies feel compelled to apologize for their products. In Fueling Freedom, energy experts Stephen Moore and Kathleen Hartnett White make an unapologetic case for fossil fuels, turning around progressives' protestations to prove that if fossil fuel energy is supplanted by “green” alternatives for political reasons, humanity will take a giant step backwards and the planet will be less safe, less clean, and less free.

Have you lost enough control to government forces? Know your Second Amendment rights and learn to recognize who is trying to take away your weapons … and why. The Second Amendment states, "A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." So why is your government interfering with your constitutionally protected right to own guns?

In the final video of the Fracking Facts series, Heartland research fellow Isaac Orr makes a strong economic case for hydraulic fracturing, also known as fracking. Calls to ban fracking are based on myths and misinformation regarding the environmental and health impacts of fracking. In 2015, NY State Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) fell susceptible to these falsities, becoming the first and only governor to ban the technology. He completely dismissed the economic prosperity that the fracking industry would have spurred in his state, especially in the rural communities. Juxtapose the lack of opportunities in New York to the abundance of opportunities in neighboring state, Pennsylvania. Like the Empire State, Pennsylvania is naturally rich in natural gas reserves. It has embraced the fracking revolution and, because so, has experienced an economic boom. Hydraulic fracturing is reducing our carbon dioxide emissions, revitalizing local communities, and putting Americans to work in living-wage jobs. Jason Bedrick of the Cato Institute explains how your tax dollars can be better used to educate your children and grandchildren. Bedrick discusses the use of vouchers, education savings accounts, and other funding options to educate those who will be the future of this country. Bedrick is a policy analyst at the Cato Institute's Center for Educational Freedom. He earned his master’s degree in public policy, with a focus on education policy, from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. His thesis, “Choosing to Learn,” assessed the scholarship tax credit programs operating in eight states, including their impact of student performance, fiscal impact, program design, and popularity.

Heartland research fellow Isaac Orr is back for the 7th video installment in the Fracking Facts series, this time from an industrial sand mine in Wisconsin. Sand mines are a necessary component in the hydraulic fracturing (i.e., fracking) process. In states like Wisconsin, Illinois, and Minnesota, the sand mining industry has created thousands of new jobs for hard-working Americans and generated additional income for landowners who have this particular sand on their property. Far from being a health or environmental risk, sand mining is a century-old industry that is used in the production of glass, toothpaste, livestock bedding, and natural gas. Watch the video and learn more about the benefits of frac sand mining! Isaac Orr, research fellow at The Heartland Institute, dispels some myths regarding the health effects of hydraulic fracturing, or fracking. Recent studies heralded by the Colorado School of Public Health and the New York Department of Health claimed fracking resulted in birth defects in children residing near welling sites and higher rates of hospitalization in rural Pennsylvania. As Isaac Orr explains, these studies were not credible and discredited because of faulty and insufficient research. Watch the latest installment in the Fracking Facts video series, and learn the truth about fracking and its health impacts.
