(Chicago, IL) The Heartland Institute welcomes health care reform expert and author Sally C. Pipes to the Windy City on Monday, October 18, for a luncheon event and after-work reception. Pipes will discuss her new book, Miracle Cure: How to Solve America's Health-Care Crisis and Why Canada Isn't the Answer.

"Sally Pipes is a nationally and internationally known expert on health care reform," said Joseph Bast, president of The Heartland Institute, a 20-year-old nonprofit research organization based in Chicago. "As a Canadian, Sally understands the Canadian health care industry first-hand. And as she points out in her new book, Canada's price controls are not the answer to rising costs or health insurance problems in the U.S. She is a powerful advocate for consumer-driven health care and a fierce critic of relying even more on government."

Pipes, a Canadian citizen living in the United States, is president of the San Francisco-based Pacific Research Institute. She will speak at two events while in Chicago:

  • A luncheon from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. at the offices of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, 311 South Wacker Drive, Suite 1500, Chicago.
  • An after-work reception from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at the offices of The Heartland Institute, 19 South LaSalle Street, Suite 903, Chicago.

The cost for each event is $15 in advance or $20 at the door; Heartland members may attend for the discounted prices of $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Press and elected officials may attend for free. Register in the Heartland online store at www.heartland.org or call Latonya Harris at 312/377-4000.
