U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry sunk to climate McCarthyism last week, calling scientists at NASA, NOAA, Harvard, MIT, Princeton, Columbia, and other prestigious research institutions “shoddy scientists” and members of “the Flat Earth Society” because they don’t agree with Kerry and President Barack Obama on global warming issues.

Fortunately for science, and unfortunately for Kerry, the Scientific Method encourages rather than blackballs critical inquiry and scientific debate. If that were not the case, people would indeed still believe the Earth is flat. Even so, more than 31,000 scientists have signed a summary of the science explaining why humans are not creating a global warming crisis. A survey of more than 1,800 atmospheric scientists in the American Meteorological Society shows less than half believe humans are the primary cause of recent warming. Comprehensive scientific summaries presented by the Nongovernmental International Panel on Climate Change reveal thousands of peer-reviewed studies contradict the alarmist global warming narrative. And scientific organizations such as the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Polish Academy of Sciences dispute the notion that humans are causing a global warming crisis, while others such as the American Physical Society point out that scientists are sharply split on the issue.
This leads us to the Biggest Lie of alarmist global warming myths: the assertion that 97 percent of scientists agree humans are causing a global warming crisis. The closest thing to actual evidence supporting such a claim is a couple of “surveys” conducted by global warming alarmists asking a cherry-picked group of their peers whether (1) the Earth has warmed during the past 100 years, since the Little Ice Age ended and (2) whether humans have played a role in the warming. The two questions are meaningless in the global warming debate, as neither of these questions addresses the issues dividing alarmists and skeptics. This is like citing a survey in which 97 percent of doctors agree people should seek professional medical attention for serious ailments, and then making a misleading and unsubstantiated jump in logic to assert that 97 percent of doctors support Obamacare.
But climate McCarthyism isn’t about analyzing scientific evidence and comparing scientific theories. It is about telling scientific falsehoods and then having political kingpins preemptively denounce and insult honorable scientists at the world’s most prestigious research institutions by calling them “shoddy scientists” and members “of the Flat Earth Society” simply because the scientists disagree with the politicians.

MODELS PREDICTED THREE TIMES MORE WARMING THAN REALLY OCCURRED
The average of more than 100 climate models utilized by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change forecasted three times more warming between 1979 and 2013 than occurred in the real world, climate scientists Richard McNider and John Christy report. “The modelers insist that they are unlucky because natural temperature variability is masking the real warming. They might be right, but when a batter goes 0 for 10, he’s better off questioning his swing than blaming the umpire,” the scientists note.

MORE THAN 1,300 PEER-REVIEWED PAPERS CAST DOUBT ON ALARMISM
More than 1,300 peer-reviewed papers published in the scientific literature cast doubt on global warming alarmism, Popular Technology reports. In a summary of arguments and counter-arguments accompanying the list, Popular Technology debunks assertions that nearly all peer-reviewed papers support alarmist global warming predictions. Only a small percentage of the papers that allegedly support the alarmist position discuss the issues in dispute between alarmists and skeptics, Popular Technology observes.

KRAUTHAMMER HAMMERS THE SETTLED SCIENCE MYTH
Syndicated columnist Charles Krauthammer pushed back at personal attacks on global warming skeptics, stating carbon dioxide emissions are causing global warming but alarmists are overstating the warming and relying on religious-type beliefs. Krauthammer presented a long list of global warming subtopics illustrating alarmist dishonesty in the debate. The prominent columnist’s article illustrates recent global warming politicking by President Barack Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry is failing to connect with people outside the circle of global warming activists and political partisans.

TOKYO POUNDED WITH HISTORIC SNOWFALL
Tokyo received 10 inches of snow Saturday morning, the largest amount of snowfall the city has seen since the global cooling scare of the early 1970s. According to Japanese media reports, the snowstorm caused 12 deaths and more than 1,500 injuries. The historic snowfall debunks global warming activists’ assertions that this year’s unusually fierce winter is merely a North American phenomenon.

NEW YORK TIMES CALLS OUT ALARMISTS ON CALIFORNIA DROUGHT CLAIMS
Sound science contradicts assertions that global warming is responsible for California’s ongoing drought, the New York Times reports. The liberal newspaper has frequently championed alarmist global warming causes but drew the line on alarmist California drought claims. The Times discovered alarmist climate models indicate global warming should cause an increase in California precipitation rather than a decrease. “In fact, the most recent computer projections suggest that as the world warms, California should get wetter, not drier, in the winter, when the state gets the bulk of its precipitation. That has prompted some of the leading experts to suggest that climate change most likely had little role in causing the drought,” the Times reported.
