The city official who taught landlords how to spot drug houses only to be charged with keeping a drug house appears to be looking for a deal in court.

Regina Simms, 45, of 9541 West Rio St., was charged in September with the Class I felony after her arrest three days earlier, according to online court records.

Sims’ last appeared in Milwaukee County Court on Oct. 27. She requested more time to “obtain an offer” from Milwaukee County prosecutors.

DRUG HOUSE, SNUG HOUSE: Regina Sims, a Milwaukee city employee who helped landlords spot drug houses, faces felony charges of keeping a drug house at her Milwaukee home.

The case was first delayed Oct. 15, when the defense sought more time.

A new scheduling conference is slated 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 20, according to court records.

Sims’ attorney, Earlean Antonia Laster, did not return calls from Wisconsin Watchdog seeking comment.

In September, Sims waived her right to a preliminary hearing. She is free on a $1,000 signature bond. The court ordered Sims to not possess or use controlled substances without a valid prescription or to possess no dangerous weapons or firearms.

Sims has been employed with the city’s Department of Neighborhood Services, as the manager of the landlord training program and as coordinator of the city’s anti-graffiti initiative since January 2013.

Art Dahlberg, then-commissioner of the department, told Wisconsin Watchdog in late September that Neighborhood Services had “initiated an internal investigation” and Sims has been placed on paid administrative leave. Sims made $57,512 last year working her government job.
