PRESS RELEASE: Heartland Institute Experts React to Revelation of Antifa Teacher Yvette Felarca’s Long History of Workplace Misconduct

Published October 3, 2017

On October 3, 2017, The Heartland Institute exposed for the first time that court documents show Yvette Felarca, the Berkeley United School District teacher arrested for violence at recent Antifa-led riots, has a long, well-documented history of “immoral conduct, evident unfitness for service, persistent violation of or refusal to obey the school laws of the state … dishonesty, unprofessional conduct, and unsatisfactory performance.” Court documents show Felarca, a member of the Berkeley Federation of Teachers, has been issued numerous formal warnings over the years about her misconduct, which includes taking students on unauthorized field trips to protests led by the militant group By Any Means Necessary (BAMN).

To read more about Felarca’s past misconduct, read Heartland’s article by Teresa Mull, a Heartland research fellow and managing editor of Heartland’s School Reform News: https://heartland.org/news-opinion/news/militant-public-school-teacher-took-students-to-antifa-protests-lied-about-absences-records-show

“The shamelessness of Felarca, the Berkeley Teachers Federation, and BAMN is as terrifying as it is astounding. These people will stop at nothing—as the ‘BAMN’ name plainly states—to get their way. BUSD has put up with Felarca long enough, assuaging her to the point of harming children. If this incident isn’t evidence of the radical left’s takeover of U.S. public schools and the need for parents to demand school choice so that they can escape these kinds of toxic environments, I don’t know what is.”

“We continue to see teachers injecting politics into the classroom. Felarca takes it even further, injecting violent ideologies with her students. Teachers unions need to help remove teachers like Felarca instead of creating rules that protect them. If teachers union bosses won’t assist in removing violent ideologies, parents should be empowered to pull their children from these classrooms immediately via an education choice program.”
