Tennessee Officials Will Review Common Core

Published May 13, 2015

Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam signed a bill to review and replace Common Core standards, according to a report by U.S. News and World Report. Though it does not repeal the standards, the measure aims to improve the K-12 math and English standards over the next few years. Haslam signed the bill on May 11.

The bill, which was approved by the Tennessee General Assembly last month, requires the state board of education to form two committees—one to review the current standards and one to eventually replace them with new ones. The committees must put forth their modified standards for implementation by the 2017-18 school year.
