James Taylor: Uranium Mining

October 24, 2012

James M. Taylor, managing editor of Environment & Climate News and senior fellow at The Heartland Institute, discusses his October 17 testimony before the Uranium Working Group in Virginia with Heartland Institute Director of Communications Jim Lakely. Taylor sets the scene of the hearing, which attracted some 200 people to rural Chatham, Virginia in the southwest corner of the state, where a proposed uranium mine could open if the state lifts the current moratorium. Taylor and Lakely also discuss safety concerns, which are largely overblown, and the NIMBY syndrome seen in many areas where any kind of energy development is on the table.
