Certificates of Need: A Bad Idea Whose Time Has Passed
Author Peter Doherty examines and compare rising health care costs in the 1960's and 1970's to failed programs that still exist in some states to present day while citing the need for reform thereby reducing the federal budget which currently is approximately one-third at the time of this article. To begin, the author states;
In the past 20 years, many of us have battled to moderate or eliminate the most egregious of these programs and the artificial controls they place on free markets, but despite our successes, vestiges of the past remain. Some are found at the federal level, but some, including a few that even the federal government has given up on as bad ideas, linger in the states.
