2015 ACA-Exchange-Premiums Update: Premiums Still Rising

Health insurance premiums continue to increase in 2015. While the pace has slowed since dramatic increases in 2014, the savings promised under Obamacare have not occurred. One way to understand the impact of Obamacare is to measure changes in premiums.

Health insurance premiums continue to increase in 2015. While the pace has slowed since dramatic increases in 2014, the savings promised under Obamacare have not occurred.

One way to understand the impact of Obamacare is to measure changes in premiums. In prior studies, The Heritage Foundation found that Obamacare’s new regulations and mandates caused premiums to rise dramatically in 2014, with the average premium increasing by more than 50 percent in some states.

This Issue Brief examines premium changes in 2015 and finds continued but slower premium growth. For the United States as a whole, average health care premiums will increase by 5.3 percent in 2015.
