Ban Overboard: Exploring Solutions to Ocean Pollution

Although ocean pollution is a problem, federal, state, and local bans on plastics of various type won't solve the problem and will create worse environmental results.

The public is right to be concerned about ocean pollution, including plastics pollution. However, neither state and local bans on many supposedly single use plastic items nor federal mandates for creation to disposal producer responsibility will have the desired impact on plastics pollution in the ocean and may, in fact, result in worse environmental results.
