Florida Supreme Court Opinion on Public School Finance

January 4, 2019
By Chief Justice Charles T. Canady et al.

Affirms that "Adequacy" of Public School Financing Is a Political Question, not a Judicial One

On January 4, 2019 the Florida Supreme Court, in Citizens for Strong Schools v. Florida State Board of Education, upheld the decision of lower-courts by ruling against plaintiffs who petitioned the courts to order the state to establish a system of adequately funded, "high-quality" public schools, as required by the state constitution.

The Supreme Court ruled that the "adequacy" of public school funding is a political question, not a judicial one.
