How "Medicare for All" Harms Working Americans

December 1, 2019
By Edmund Haislmaier and Jamie Hall

This study examines how a government-run health care system will impact household income.

This special report by Edmund Haislmaier and Jaimie Bryan Hall shows how much Medicare for All proposals will costs all Americans by household income. It finds workers will have to pay 21.2 percent on top of the 15. 3 percent they are currently paying to fund Social Security and Medicare and this amount would apply to all dollars earned from lower paid workers to higher paid ones.  Workers who currently have employer health insurance will be especially hit since they would now be funding a bigger program through  higher taxes and lose their tax-advantages insurance benefit.
