In a report released on April 23, 2020, by the Texas Public Policy Foundation, Dr. Brian Blase and David Balat reviewed and evaluated a variety of health coverage studies related to Medicaid expansion. The paper, titled Is Medicaid Expansion Worth It?, concluded that Medicaid expansion produced negligible average effects on health and have resulted in increased mortality rates across numerous age groups. Further, Blase and Balat’s paper suggests that targeted programs, including those particularly geared toward the young, provide more benefit to overall health than massive Medicaid expansion.
