Nursing Home Provider COVID-19 Capacity Payments (Michigan)

April 22, 2020

This is a memo that was distributed to Michigan nursing homes offering a $5,000 payment for receiving recovering COVID-19 patients.

The Michigan State Budget Office, under the direction of Governor Gretchen Whitmer, confirms the authenticity of this document. It describes the states "hub" policy to move recovering COVID-19 patients to nursing homes to open up more hospital beds.  Michigan is one of a handful of states criticized for creating a policy that put vulnerable populations at risk.  The policy was put in place late April, weeks after data showed individuals older than age 80 were particularly at risk from dying from COVID-19.
