Parents at 20th Street Elementary Pull the Parent Trigger

California’s 20th Street Elementary School will be under new management after a group of parents used the state’s Parent Empowerment Act, also known as “the parent trigger” law.

California’s parent trigger law allows parents who are dissatisfied with their child’s low-performing schools to sign a petition to intervene either by, as the California Department of Education website states, “replacing all or some of the staff, turning the school over to a charter operator, transforming it through some programs, or closing the school altogether.”
