The 12 Dumbest Drinking Laws in America
Prohibition ended 85 years ago, but states and localities regulate alcohol in strange ways.
Prohibition ended Dec. 5, 1920 but a new report outlines the 12 most ridiculous drinking laws that still exist in the United States. Most of these state and local laws came after the 21st Amendment repealed the nationwide prohibition on alcoholic beverages.
“In one way or another, all of these [laws] have nonsensical rationales—and, in some cases, downright offensive ones," states the report. "While it’s to be expected that governments might want to institute at least some laws governing the sale and consumption of alcohol, the true goal should be to protect public health and safety.”
