Despite low prices the United States continues to be the worlds largest producer of oil and natural gas.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) released a report showing the United States remained “the world’s top producer of petroleum and natural gas hydrocarbons in 2015.” June EIA data shows, U.S. petroleum and natural gas production first surpassed Russia in 2012, and the U.S. has been the world’s largest producer of natural gas since 2011, and the world’s leading producer of petroleum hydrocarbons since 2013. The EIA attributes the U.S.'s energy dominance to the hydraulic fracturing (fracking) revolution reporting increases in U.S. petroleum and natural gas production over the past several years “are directly attributable to tight oil and shale gas formations.”
