Wisconsin Attorney General's Informal Opinion: Barn Rentals Subject to Liquor Laws
'Wedding Barn' Rentals Require Liquor Licenses
In an informal legal opinion requested by state Rep. Rob Swearingen (R), chair of the state Assembly Committee on State Affairs and Government Operations, Wisconsin Attorney General Brad Schimel says “wedding barns” used for private events must comply with the same state liquor laws as bars and restaurants.
The nonbinding opinion could lead the state’s Department of Regulation to require liquor licenses from event hosts.
